Nichol Wheatley is founder and head of Perfect Circle Art, one of Scotland’s leading Fine Art studios. Over the last decade he has worked all over Europe. He nearly worked in Barbados too – until Bruce Willis decided on a less adventurous approach to his holiday home.
Nichol’s work has included mosaics, trompe l’oeil, the ceiling of St Aloysius Church (up 70 feet of scaffolding – a la Michelangelo), and fine art works in almost any style you could imagine. He is currently working on a huge marble floor mosaic for The Corinthian, a proposed large scale public art work with longtime collaborator Alasdair Gray, and artworks for Chelsea Football Club’s hotel. Nichol also continues to work on the mural cycle at Oran Mor with Gray – when they’re not busy playing chess in the bar.
"Late Start" - Show of work June 2010
This show comprises the first release of Wheatley’s own paintings since he started painting seriously for himself. They include works from his summer painting in Collioure, the home of Fauvism, famously started by Matisse and Derain and Port Vendres, where Charles Rennie Mackintosh spent his last days, a series of Scottish nocturnes, and some rare figurative work.
